It's an uphill battle! On Friday June 20th, 2008, an expected 2,500 people will run, walk or parade one mile uphill up 10th Avenue between Alma Street and Blanca Street with a noble goal in mind - to see their entry fee doubled in support of the BC Children's Hospital.
For every man, woman or child who runs up the hill, Chip Wilson, the founder of lululemon athletica has pledged to match their entry fee with a contribution up to $100,000 in support of BC Children's Hospital and all kids who really know what an uphill battle feels like! Chip's three-year plan is to raise $1.5 million dollars.
A Celebration of Life!
When sick kids get better they run, play, and most of all they appreciate the fact that they're alive. What if we all did that?
Unlike any event anywhere in the world, this 'Celebration of Life' theme will allow participants to express their own causes, passions, businesses, and characters, but above all - their individuality and the need to celebrate lives that are yet to be lived.
That is why this event is so unique. You have the choice to run, walk, or parade in one of our various 'waves' that go up the hill. If you want to run in your underwear, so be it. If you want to run in a bridesmaid dress, go for it. If you want to race with the world's fastest and win $20,000, start training now! That's why it's a crazy, fun event. All walks of life will be there.
It's a Run, Walk, or Parade, a Spectacle and a Party!
At the end of the race, participants will enjoy the After Party Festivities at West 10th Ave. between Sasamat and Tolmie complete with food, beverage and live entertainment.
As an added bonus, the Live Street Party site at West 10th Ave. between Sasamat and Tolmie will feature the pop-reggae sounds of California-based Canadian musician Chris Velan!
